Technion Genome Center
Initiated by Nobel Laureate Distinguished Prof. Aaron Ciechanover, the Technion’s Life Sciences & Engineering (LS&E) Interdisciplinary Research Center was established to bring together the best and most innovative researchers from diverse fields to search for answers to questions that require a combination of life sciences and engineering expertise.
The Technion Genome Center (TGC), an integral part of the LS&E Infrastructure Center since 2009, is positioned at the forefront of next generation sequencing technology. We provide researchers from various disciplines with state of the art services for achieving cutting edge breakthroughs.
Our team includes PhDs specializing in genomics, dedicated bioinformaticians, and molecular biology specialists. We have a proven record of working together with researchers from a multitude of academic institutions throughout Israel as well as the industry. In addition to next generation sequencing, the TGC team is happy to help researchers in designing experiments, preparing sequencing libraries, and providing initial bioinformatic analyses.
The mission of the TGC is to maintain and expand its role as Israel’s leading sequencing facility. In order to accomplish this, the TGC continuously upgrades its state of the art equipment as new technology becomes available.
TGC Main Sequencing Applications:
Each project at the TGC begins with a consultation meeting in which the researcher presents his/her project’s biological question to a molecular biology specialist and a bioinformatician from our team. At this meeting, we work together with the researcher to determine the best experimental design, library preparation strategy, and sequencing parameters to use for their unique project. The NextSeq-550 sequencing system uses Illumina’s proven reversible terminator- based sequencing by synthesis chemistry.
Illumina HiSeq 2500
The HiSeq 2500 sequencing system uses Illumina’s proven reversible terminator- based sequencing by synthesis chemistry.
The MiSeq is a desktop sequencer that allows researchers to quickly sequence a single lane.
Oxford Nanopore MinION
Ultra-long read lengths are possible (hundreds of kb) as you can choose your fragment length. The MinION streams data in real time so that analysis can be performed during the experiment and workflows are fully versatile.
Covaris E-220 – Multi-Sample DNA Shearing System
The Covaris E220 is a Focused Ultrasonicator designed for shearing of genomic DNA and chromatin.
10X Genomics – Chromium Single Cell Gene Expression Solution
The Chromium Single Cell Gene Expression Solution provides a comprehensive, scalable solution for cell characterization and gene expression profiling of hundreds to millions of cells. The sequencing libraries are generated with the Chromium controller instrument and reagents from 10X Genomics, followed by sequencing on our Illumina sequencers.
Agilent 2200 TapeStation
Using the same basic principles as gel electrophoresis, the Agilent 2200 TapeStation allows for fast and simple quality assessment of RNA and DNA samples. Only 1-2μl are required from each sample, and results are obtained within ~1 minute per sample.
Agilent Bravo Automated Liquid Handling Platform
The Bravo Liquid Handling Platform enables automated sample preparation of up to 96 DNA or RNA libraries simultaneously. Libraries are robust and ready for sequencing in 2-3 days.
